Visit with Holt International to Review Adoption File and Search for Birth Family

Yesterday I visited my adoption agency, Holt Children's Services, to go through my case file and visit the clinic where my foster mother would take me in for monthly checkups before I flew to the United States. The nurse that looked after me was still working there! Going through your file with the adoption agency is a powerful, emotional, and sometimes frustrating experience for adoptees due to the privacy laws protecting birthparents' identities. Generally an adoptee is able to know the address of their birthplace, so they can visit where they first came into the world. My file says I was born...

WEEKEND UPDATE - 35% of the way there! When I first thought about sharing my story and returning to Korea, I was full of doubt: - What if you’re not ready for this? - What if you can’t find your birth family? - What if they don’t want to be found? - What if you’re not embraced by your fellow Koreans or even other adoptees? - What if no one cares about what adoptees face when returning to their birth country? Found a photo of me with my foster mother just before leaving Korea!

Wow. Just got this photo of my foster mother and me just before I left Korea! The agency said she wasn't thrilled to give me up 😳 I'd love to thank her for caring for me those 3 months—maybe the "Please Talk to Me" shirt was a message from her to future me? 🙌 Help fund my trip back to connect with my Korean family & document it by supporting and sharing the Indiegogo campaign. Every little bit helps! igg.me/at/seouljourn
