2016 IKAA Gathering Opening Night — Adoptee Togetherness

One of the most powerful moments of my first trip back to Korea was standing with hundreds of fellow adoptees on the first night of the 2016 IKAA Gathering. Incredible people of different ages, from different parts of the world, with unique gifts and experiences, sharing the same welcome in our shared homeland.

One Month Since Returning From Korea – Update

Today marks 1 month since returning from my first journey back to the homeland. I’ve been in relative hiding the last few weeks reflecting over the experience and planning post-production on Seouljourn—I think about Korea every day. Over the next few weeks I’ll be regularly posting some of the photos and video footage from the trip, as well as updates on finishing the film project. A recap video is coming soon, and the rewards for contributing to the crowdfund have also started going out, so be on the lookout. Want to know more about the project or chat about my time in Korea? I’d...

Lunch with Pastor Kim, Mrs. Kim & their beautiful family in Anseong

I was invited to have lunch with Pastor Kim, Mrs. Kim & their beautiful family at their church in Anseong yesterday. The Kims adopted 3 children domestically and also have 1 biological son. The congregation welcomed me with a song, and I spoke with the Kims about the blessings of adoption and some of the shared experiences and challenges that both international and domestic adoptees face. After sharing our musical talents, we ended in group prayer for orphans & adoptees in Korea and everywhere. I'm so very grateful for such a powerful experience and to have met such a caring and special...

President of South Korea Park Geun-hye speaks to international adoptees at IKAA The Gathering Conference

  • August 2, 2016

President Park Geun-hye on Tuesday said her government will strive harder to support overseas South Korean adoptees through an array of programs, including those to help them better understand the language and culture of their motherland. In her video message to the 2016 International Korean Adoptee Associations (IKAA) Gathering in Seoul, Park also called on the adoptees to play a "bridging" role in connecting South Korea to the rest of the world. "(The Seoul government) will provide the overseas adoptees with opportunities to visit their motherland, study the Korean language and experience...

WEEKEND UPDATE – 35% of the way there!

WEEKEND UPDATE - 35% of the way there! When I first thought about sharing my story and returning to Korea, I was full of doubt: - What if you’re not ready for this? - What if you can’t find your birth family? - What if they don’t want to be found? - What if you’re not embraced by your fellow Koreans or even other adoptees? - What if no one cares about what adoptees face when returning to their birth country? If I’ve learned anything one thing so far, it’s this — Don’t let the fear of what COULD happen keep you from seeing what things WILL happen. Since launching...

Found a photo of me with my foster mother just before leaving Korea!

Wow. Just got this photo of my foster mother and me just before I left Korea! The agency said she wasn't thrilled to give me up 😳 I'd love to thank her for caring for me those 3 months—maybe the "Please Talk to Me" shirt was a message from her to future me? 🙌 Help fund my trip back to connect with my Korean family & document it by supporting and sharing the Indiegogo campaign. Every little bit helps! igg.me/at/seouljourn
